Our Story

Wells Gibson was founded by managing director Jonathan Gibson in 2016 and has since grown organically, anchored by the principles of authenticity, transparency, partnership and innovation.

Jonathan named the company in honour of his late father, Terry Wells Gibson, and late grandfather, James Wells Gibson.  Both men played a significant role in helping guide Jonathan’s early career in financial services.

Based in Dundee, our independent, multi award-winning firm currently provides a highly personalised service to around 90 client families, living mainly in Scotland and also, North England.

Our contemporary office is situated in Prospect House, a stunning, Victorian building.  Prospect Business Centre offers ample parking, located in Dundee’s Technology Park and is easily accessible from the A90 Kingsway West.

Our client meeting rooms are easily accessible to all.

Jonathan Gibson CFPTM

Chartered FCSI, Managing Director

Jonathan Gibson CFPTM, Chartered FCSI, Managing Director of Wells Gibson Limited, Author of Purposeful Wealth and Host of the Purposeful Wealth Podcast.

Prior to establishing Wells Gibson, Jonathan was a co-founder and a director of Verus Financial Planning, Dundee (est. 2005) and AAB Wealth, Aberdeen (est. 2011), two successful and national award-winning businesses, which were established in conjunction with two leading firms of accountants.

Jonathan is a Chartered Fellow of Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), and his qualifications include:

  • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional
  • Chartered Fellow (Financial Planner)
  • Chartered Wealth Manager


Jonathan has c.30 years’ experience as an advisor for private clients and over 20 years as a business owner.

Jonathan is married to Claire and has 3 daughters, Christina, Hannah, and Katie.  A member of St. Peter’s Free Church, Dundee, Jonathan also enjoys playing golf at Gleneagles and is an active gym member of the Discovery Boxing Club.

Josh Smith (LLB)(Hons)

Financial Planner

Having graduated from The University of Dundee in 2017 with a Bachelor of Laws with honours, he joined the team as an Associate and achieved the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning in 2019. 

Josh is currently studying to be qualified as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional.

Josh is a keen mountain biker, violinist and enjoys sweating it out in the gym.

Emma-Jane Kerr

Operations Manager

Emma-Jane (EJ) joined the team in April 2022 with extensive experience in both the public and private sector, holding industry qualifications in project management, leadership, and management. EJ oversees the implementation, reporting and oversight of the firm’s day-to-day activities and has a huge passion for improving corporate, social, and environmental responsibility.

EJ is married to Richard and has two young sons, Cody & Marcus, who keep her on her toes!  In her spare time, EJ loves exploring new restaurants, organising and occasionally visiting the stables to satisfy her life-time love of horses. 

Lori McCluskey

Client Associate

Lori joined the Wells Gibson team back in 2021 as a Graduate.

Lori graduated from the University of Dundee in 2020 with a Master of Arts degree in Financial Economics with First Class Honours and has previously worked as a Finance Assistant at Tayside Medical Science Centre (TASC) and as a summer intern at the Scottish Property Federation.  Lori is currently studying towards her Investment Advice Diploma through the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

In her spare time, Lori enjoys going to the gym, listening to music, spending time with her cockapoo Angus and socialising with friends and family.

Harry Clark

Client Associate

Harry joined the Wells Gibson team in September 2024 as a Client Associate.

A Business with Financial Services graduate from Edinburgh Napier University, he is currently working towards his Investment Advice Diploma with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

Before joining Wells Gibson, Harry worked as a driving range attendant and golf coach at The Gleneagles Hotel. A passionate golfer, he has competed successfully at both county and national levels. Outside of work, Harry enjoys running, socialising with friends, and meeting new people.

Jayne Dodds

Client Communications & Marketing Officer

Jayne joined Wells Gibson in 2025, bringing with her a background in fashion, textiles, and marketing. She holds a degree in Fashion Communication from Heriot-Watt University and has gained experience in a variety of creative environments, from a fashion PR agency in New York to supporting London and Copenhagen Fashion Weeks, and more recently, managing the marketing for a local textile manufacturer.

Jayne is excited to begin a new chapter with Wells Gibson and values the firm’s focus on placing the client at the heart of everything they do. She is looking forward to learning more about financial planning and getting stuck in with the team.

In her spare time, Jayne enjoys baking, exploring new places, and spending time with friends and family.

Alana Kearnan

Client Services Associate

Alana joined Wells Gibson in 2025 as a Client Services Associate and is completing her Graduate Apprenticeship in Business Management alongside her role. She began her career as a Receptionist and Clerical Assistant while completing a Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration, which provided a strong foundation for her career development.

Alana is looking forward to learning more about financial planning, contributing fresh ideas, and applying her studies to support both the team and the clients of Wells Gibson.

In her spare time, Alana enjoys keeping fit, socialising with friends, and spending time with her dachshund, Ralph.

Ryan Hegarty

Client Services Associate

Ryan joined Wells Gibson in 2025 as a Client Services Associate through the University of Dundee Graduate Apprenticeship Programme. His role allows him to combine his Business Management studies with valuable first-hand experience in the Financial Services profession.

Ryan is looking forward to developing new skills, gaining industry knowledge, and engaging in the wide variety of networking opportunities available to him, all while contributing to the success of the Wells Gibson team.

In his spare time, Ryan enjoys socialising with family and friends, playing and watching sports, and pursuing his keen interest in film and music, which he explores through attending film festivals and music concerts.
